Barrio Sonja
Barrio Sonja is a new project in
Carita Feliz. Based on support from Sonja and Eigild
Christensen in Ålborg, Denmark, Carita Feliz will build
a new barrio or district of Granada.

children without financial means are given the opportunity

Nicaraguan coffee
As one of the main exports, Nicaragua depends heavily
on sales of its coffee in foreign countries. In recent
years, the price paid to coffee farmers has fallen dramatically
on the world market, while the price charged to European
and American consumers has remained the same or risen.
What's the cause? There's too much coffee in the world.
Brazil, the world's biggest producer, has been spared
from frost for many years and countries, such as Vietnam,
have been encouraged to grow more crops for export by
the IMF and the World Bank.
 The FLO was set up
to co-ordinate the work of national labelling initiatives,
such as the Fairtrade
Foundation (in the UK). Max
Havelaar is probably the best known fair trade coffee
producer that supplies Denmark. For more information,

Make Poverty History
Poverty is a hot topic and 2005 has been announced
as the year where the Western world finds a solution
to poverty in the third world. The largest campaign
is Make Poverty History.
More
than 200 charities, campaigns, trade unions, faith groups
and celebrities have joined together in a coordinated
campaign to eradicate global poverty. As it states on
their website, "WHAT WE ARE ASKING FOR. In 9 words...
TRADE JUSTICE. DROP THE DEBT. MORE AND BETTER AID."
