Toothbrushes
In the
summer of 2004, Mr Mario Garcia spent a month of his
time in the center along with his wife Dolores and
children Michael and Lauren. Originally
from Cuba, Mario now lives with his family in Houston, Texas but has
visited Nicaragua numerous times.
The
idea that Mario had was to distribute as many
toothbrushes as possible in the month. Each day, he
would visit barrios including Santa Rosa, Cuiscoma and
Sabaneta and do a demonstration for each household. At
the end of the month, Mario had done an amazing 600
demonstrations and handed out 1,500 toothbrushes and
toothpaste!
The
entire project was funded by Mario himself and has made
a dramatic impact on many children's lives. Remember,
Mario is not a dentist (although he has good teeth!) but
he had an abundance of energy to fulfil the project.
Everyone can make a difference.
